Company History

1979

Optex Co., Ltd., founded by three engineers in Shiga, Japan, as a company specializing in sensors.

1980

Introduced the OP-01A, the world's first automatic door sensor using passive infrared.

1984

Completed new headquarters building.

1985

Introduced Japan's first sensor light using passive infrared.
Introduced the OW-01, the world's first wireless automatic door touch switch.
Established Optex (U.S.A.) Inc. in California, USA.

1986

Opened Optex Tokyo Sales Office in Tokyo, Japan.

1988

Introduced the Thermo Hunter 5140 and Thermo Hunter Built-in non-contact thermometers.

1989

Established joint venture company, Sick Optex Co., Ltd., for facilitating development of photoelectric sensors with West Germany's Erwin Sick GmbH (now Sick AG).

1990

Established O'pal Optex Co., Ltd., as an employee leisure facility.
Established Research and Development Center.

1991

Established Optex (Europe) Ltd., in Berkshire, UK, to expand sales in the European market.
Optex stock listed at the Japan Securities Dealers Association (now JASDAQ Securities Exchange).

1992

Acquired Morse Security Group, Inc., to expand the security business and established Optex Morse, Inc.

1993

Introduced the world's first automatic water transparency measuring system.

1994

Established Optex (H.K.) Ltd., in Hong Kong for component procurement.
ISO 9001 certified by LRQA (locations: HQ and R&D Center).

1995

Started contract production in China.
VX-40/40A intrusion detector for automatic security system given NPS award at the ISC Expo '96 security trade show in the USA.

1997

ISO 14001 certified by JET (locations: HQ and R&D Center).

1998

Introduced the Wonder Track digital event recording system in the digital CCTV system market.
Digital event recording system given first prize at France's Expoprotection security equipment trade show.

1999

Digital event recording system given the Grand Prix at the ISC West in the USA, the largest security equipment trade show in the world.
Introduced the OA-6000 automatic sheet shutter sensor.
Established Optex Incorporated in California, USA, as a company specialized in sensors and the sensor system business.
Vision security control panel given award as a best performer in the USA, at the ISC East security equipment trade show.

2000

BX-80 outdoor PIR detector given Product Achievement Award for intrusion detection/prevention at the ISC West in the USA.

2001

Optex stock listed on the second section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
Security Enclosures Ltd., acquired by Optex (Europe) Ltd., as a subsidiary.
Spun off photoelectric sensor division and established Optex FA Co., Ltd.

2003

Established Optex Korea Co., Ltd., in Korea and Optex Security SAS in France to build direct marketing frameworks.
Optex stock listed on the first section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
Introduced the CVS-1, the world's first all-in-one color vision sensor.

2004

Relocated headquarters in Otsu, Shiga, Japan.
Acquired Giken Trastem Co., Ltd., for business expansion through customer traffic technology with Optex expertise.
Established Optex Security Sp. z o.o., in Warsaw, Poland, to ascertain market needs and expand exports to Eastern Europe and Russia.
Introduced the AX-100DH(J)/200DH(J), the world's first long-range outdoor protection using digital communication technology.
Established Optex Technologies Inc., in California, USA, to expand automatic door products.

2005

Introduced the Digital Packtest water quality test device jointly developed with Kyoritsu Chemical Check Lab., Corp.
Optex's subsidiary, Optex FA Co., Ltd., listed on the Hercules Market of the Osaka Securities Exchange.
Established Optex (Dongguan) Co., Ltd., in China to enhance cost competitiveness and build marketing frameworks in the Chinese market.
Introduced the DT-01 driving safety support system into the traffic safety market.

2007

Japan F.A. Systems Co., Ltd., acquired by Optex FA Co., Ltd.
Introduced the ACCURANCE OV-101 system to detect security access tailgating.
Acquired Farsight Security Services Ltd., a remote video response service provider in the UK.
East Coast Office in North Carolina, USA, established by Optex Technologies Inc., to expand the automatic door sensor business.

2008

Acquired Secumatic B.V., in the Netherlands to expand the automatic door sensor business in Europe and established Optex Technologies B.V.
Acquired Zenic Inc., to provide technical collaboration with image processing technology.

2010

Entered the LED lighting field by introducing an LED light control system, achieving industry-leading levels of energy saving.
Acquired Fiber Sensys Inc., to obtain products, technology, and distribution routes for fiber-optic intrusion detection systems.
Sales office in Shanghai, China opened by Optex (Dongguan) Co., Ltd.

2011

New branch office in Dubai, UAE, opened by Optex (Europe) Ltd., to pursue perimeter security solutions in the Middle East market.
Established Optex Security, LLC, in Moscow, Russia, as a sales office for security products.
Opened Europe warehouse hub in Amsterdam, Netherlands, for innovation in logistics.

2012

Acquired Raytec Limited to obtain and expand products, technology, and distribution routes for CCTV lighting systems for the security business.
Opened Asia warehouse hub in Hong Kong for innovation in logistics.
Established Optex Pinnacle India Private Limited as a joint venture company in Haryana, India, and Optex do Brasil Ltda. in Sao Paulo, Brazil, to expand business and enhance customer support in newly developing countries.

2013

Established Sensor Vision Co., Ltd. in Japan and Guangzhou Optex Industrial Automation Control Equipment Co.,Ltd. in Guangdong province, China by Optex FA Co., Ltd. for the business expansion in the fields of Factory Automation.
The discrimination technology of human body by laser scanning received an award of Director-General, Kinki Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry at the invention award ceremony of Kinki region organized by Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation.  

2014

Selected to "Global Niche Top Companies Selection 100", organized by Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).
Positioned OPTEX (EUROPE), LTD. as EMEA HEADQUARTERS as a management office for Europe, Middle East, and Africa to promote localization of the strategy development of each area, and to expand business globally.

2015

Positioned OPTEX INCORPORATED as AMERICAS HEADQUARTERS as a management office for North, Central, and South America.
Embarked on the solution business by filtering the data by sensors utilizing cloud. 

2016

Started consignment manufacturing in Vietnam to strengthen the global supply system.

Acquired CCS Inc. and Gardasoft Vision Limited to expand the business of LED lighting for the Machine Vision industry and enhance the development of new business field.

Established OPTEX(Thailand) CO., LTD. in Thailand to expand the business of security and automatic door sensor segment in the Southeast Asia region.

2017

Acquired 100% ownership of OPTEX FA CO., LTD.

Transited to a new organizational structure with OPTEX GROUP CO., LTD. as a holding company.
